The onus is on you to justify how this guy isn't a fluke, because all of the data points to him, in fact, being a fluke.

2010 BA: .228, BABIP: .278, HR: 7, RBI: 31
2011 BA: .295, BABIP: .366, HR: 19, RBI: 82
2012 BA: .243, BABIP: .313, HR: 9, RBI: 48
2013 BA: .179, BABIP: .219, HR 4, RBI: 10

Those stats right there are the definition of fluke. Here's a quote from fangraph for you: "The average BABIP for hitters is around .290 to .310. If you see any player that deviates from this average to an extreme, they’re likely due for regression." AKA He's a fluke, but Daddy is in the front office. Worst of all, Leyland has shifted him into the 6-spot for some reason unbeknownst to any rational individual. If you're playing this guy, he should be buried in the 8 or 9-spot. I say 8-spot, because I don't mind him leaving Infante at 9.

He had one good year, and is showing no signs of ever repeating it. FLUKE. If you disagree, prove it to me.

Re: Sanchez Struggles Early While Offense Gets Grimm Diagnosis

Struggling right now? He's been "struggling" for a year and a half. Dude IS a fluke.

Re: Game 40: Tigers (22 – 17) at Rangers (27 – 14), 8:05pm ET

WHY IS HE BATTING AVILA 6TH AGAIN!? Just about completely fed up with Leyland. Can't take his moronic, illogical approach any longer. Again, very small sample size - but still, given our options, I'd like to see him get more AB against Righties.

Re: Oh Donnie Boy

Yeah, big Al's been struggling with the command for sure. I admittedly lean toward optimism (perhaps too much at times) with these guys, but I think he'll figure it out. He's got wicked movement and the speed we need. He's got "the stuff" in other words. In the past, it seems staying healthy was his issue. I'm with you - so hard watching him walk that guy. Just the kiss of death when you walk the leadoff. I damn near turned the game off at that point to save myself the Tums purchase. But I do think he'll find his control. (Fingers crossed). As far as Tui goes, I know its a small sample size and Leyland thinks he can't hit righties - but I don't know. I'd like to see him get a chance to prove Jimbo wrong, ya know? Thanks for the comment, Timothy!

Re: Oh Donnie Boy

I'm looking at the line on Al Al and he walks a guy every inning. How can this guy pitch in the bigs. It was painful watching him put the winning run on base in the ninth.
I also couldn't see how a guy who was 3/3 can sit and watch baseball Donnie pitch hit for him. If this gives Donnie confidence what does it do for Tui.

Re: Oh Donnie Boy

I can see some instances where Donnie is worth playing. I like him as a versatility guy and I actually prefer him over bringing up, say Berry, for anything besides running. I just think Jim outthinks himself in pinch hitting situations sometimes. Overall, I'm a "Leyland guy". I like him as our manager. But days like today are frustrating.

Re: Oh Donnie Boy

Psych 101: Papa Leyley are very close off season and he thinks of DK like a son. I thought he couldn't hit righties, Jim, that's why you never play him against them. Well, Haren is a righty. So, I'm going to take this singular instance and use it as my argument. Just start this guy for the next 10 games, and let him either play himself in or out of the starting job, and then I'll shut up. It's not like it's going to do any harm, considering you're starting Kelly and Dirks there otherwise. Leyland always picks the white boys to give every damn chance he can.

Re: Verlander Flirts With No-No As Tigers Complete Sweep of Astros

That was in Detroit; I think by NL ball, the author means no DH, NL rules, NL park.

Re: Verlander Flirts With No-No As Tigers Complete Sweep of Astros

First taste of NL ball?
